Today’s the day. The day you help save the internet from being ruined.

Yes, you are, and we’re ready to help you.

(Long story short: The FCC is about to make a critical decision as to whether or not internet service providers have to treat all traffic equally. If they choose wrong, then the internet where anyone can start a website for any reason at all, the internet that’s been so momentous, funny, weird, and surprising—that internet could cease to exist. Here’s your chance to preserve a beautiful thing.)

Is John Foust For Real?

It sickens me enough that this man is campaigning out of my hometown, Leesburg, VA, but his latest commentary is vomit-inducing. In a recent statement, he questioned whether Republican opponent, state Delegate Barbara Comstock, who worked for Frank Wolf, had ever held a “real job.” I’m sorry, Mr. “self-made” Foust, but can you define for us what a “real job” is? I work as a substitute teacher who aspires to be a 4th grade teacher but I’ve never worked in a Christmas tree lot, or a railroad, or steel mill like you but does that somehow make me a less legitimate presence in the workforce? My parents are not paying for me to go to school. I took out student loans and earned scholarships. I am also a mother and an active volunteer in my community. Somehow, I juggle work, school, parenting, volunteering, and blogging but I guess to you, I don’t have a “real job.” You remind me of someone who said the same thing to me a few years ago. You want to know what that did to me? It didn’t discourage me, it ignited the fire and made me work that much harder because I was appalled by him. I resolved to not only meet but exceed my goals and make him look like a huge idiot. That is exactly what Barbara Comstock will do to you in November.

Ladies and gentlemen, Foust bills himself as a “women’s candidate” in a race with two female opponents and seems proud of himself and his campaign for attacking Comstock for her pro-life stance yet they conveniently ignore the work she has done to benefit women in the Commonwealth including spearheading a request and letter from House of Delegates members to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to adopt the recommendation of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology to make birth control pills available over the counter without a prescription for adult women. She has been an active and vocal supporter of women in business and also established a Young Women’s Leadership Program in January 2013 for junior high and high school girls in which 60 girls from McLean, Great Falls, Vienna and Loudoun County are currently enrolled. Comstock has also been a champion of cracking down on human trafficking, which victimizes girls and women.

And he wants to ask whether she has ever had a “real job?” Would you like to know what that sounds like to me? Sexism. Foust’s comment sounds like a blatantly sexist creep and his comments should be insulting to all women. I can’t fathom how Leesburg mayor Kristen Umstattd and town councilwoman Kelly Burk can even stand to look at him, let alone support him after those and a slew of other slimy comments he has made. Foust cannot contend record for record, issue for issue against Comstock so he is resorting to name-calling and misogyny and it is in my opinion that no self-respecting woman should vote for this man.

Women's Sports Wednesday: Mo'ne Davis

How’s this for girl power? Mo’ne Davis, the girl who was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated before high school; the girl who broke all expectations and became an immediate sensation in the world of sports after taking the Little League World Series by storm.

I wrote this little piece about Mo’ne Davis on TPR. Check it out :)

It is wrong to assume you are a whore just because you are dressed like one, but you are after all wearing a whore’s uniform.

First of all, I will make it explicitly clear that I am not a liberal by any stretch of the imagination and I hate the current feminist movement because it is anything but what feminism was in its genesis; it’s become twisted. However, I am going to tell you right now that this is flat out wrong and I can’t say enough to rebuke you for posting this because it is a slap in the face to any woman who has gone through this horror.

From what I have learned in the classes I have taken and websites I’ve read there are a few things rapists look for when scoping out their next victim. They like long hair in styles like buns, ponytails, and braids because they are easy to grab; women with shorter hair are not common targets. This does not mean that women should have to keep their hair short just to deter a potential rapist. I have very long hair and I’m growing it out because I want an elaborate braided style for my wedding day. Why should I have to nix that plan just because some jerk might pull it and attempt to attack me? That’s just one more way that rapists control women — we are made to live in constant paranoia and must go out of our way to keep from being harmed.

While they tend to look for women in clothing that can be removed quickly and easily, the fact is that many carry scissors or box cutters to cut through clothing so it really doesn’t matter what you’re wearing. A woman could be wearing jeans and a sports jersey, out shopping in a maxi dress and cardigan, or wearing a skirt suit for work and still be targeted.

Rapists trend toward attacking at night in places like grocery store or mall parking lots, parking garages, stairwells, walking trails, and other places where a woman could be dragged down or to a secondary place very quickly (usually within a minute or two). I know for a fact that the mall I used to work at has no exterior cameras (hence the need for security to patrol 24/7 in a vehicle) and we had to provide escorts for some female mall employees who worked closing shifts and didn’t feel safe walking to their cars alone.

The majority of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows like someone they are dating (1/3 of rapes are date rapes), a co-worker, classmate, friend, acquaintance, and sometimes even a family member. Getting drunk at a party is not an excuse for someone to rape a woman, either. I am so tired of hearing about guys taking advantage of women who have a little too much to drink (or have their drinks drugged) at parties — especially at colleges. They say the first two or three weeks of college are when campus rapes are most likely to occur because that’s when rush week and lots of welcome socials happen. I am blessed to be part of a university that does not allow alcohol on campus. I choose not to drink and I feel that one does not require booze to have a good time but choosing to drink doesn’t mean she deserved to be raped. Only yes means yes. Unless you get consent, you may not. If your partner says stop while in the middle of relations, you need to respect that and stop.

I am a rape survivor and I was certainly not dressed in a “whore’s uniform” when I was attacked unless you call a modest boat neck blouse and knee-length skirt “whorish.” Of course, it doesn’t matter what I was wearing because rape isn’t about sexuality — it’s about power, anger, and violence. It’s been just over 8 years since I was attacked and I still need therapy to cope with the night terrors and trust issues I have as a result. I am so lucky to have a fiance who loves me and supports me and has been so understanding of what I went through and continue to go through. I’ve gone to self-defense classes and been to support groups where I learned a lot about rape, how to reduce my risk, and how to defend myself if the need arises but how many boys/men go to classes that teach them not to rape women? I’ve never heard of a class called “How Not To Be A Rapist 101.” Why does this responsibility seem to fall solely on women? Why aren’t men expected to have some kind of self-control? Why do we need to be armed with mace or a handgun or carry our keys in our fists like knuckle spikes?

When I was raped:

  • I had forgotten to lock the front door (he did not have a key). I still didn’t deserve it.
  • I was wearing a boat neck blouse and knee-length skirt. I still didn’t deserve it.
  • I drank the last Coke. I still didn’t deserve it.
  • He was my boyfriend. I still didn’t deserve it.
  • I couldn’t fight him off though I left some scars on him. I still didn’t deserve it.

Nothing that happened was my fault and I refuse to let people like you make me feel like it was anything but his fault. He chose to enter my home without permission. He chose to break my trust. He chose to assault me. He chose to rape me. I did not deserve it and nothing you say or believe will change that fact. No woman deserves to be raped. Period.

Rape and robbery are only similar in the sense that they are crimes and a criminal steals something. A robber takes money or material possessions but a rapist steals innocence, trust, and sometimes virginity and the joy of having your first child — things that are not replaceable because they are not tangible. Comparing rape to robbery in any other sense is irresponsible and crass.

There are no words to describe my level of disgust with you right now. How DAREyou? This junk you posted only serves to contribute to the continued victimization of people who have survived being raped. Maybe you need to learn a thing or two about rape before you go posting garbage like this.

Ice Bucket Challenge

Seriously though, her ignorance was astounding. It might be a trend for some people but the trend is a good thing. The more viral this becomes, the better, because it’s spreading awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Saying that “hashtag activism” and participating in these viral awareness trends is “just for attention,” “doesn’t do crap,” and labeling it pointless is like saying fundraising and walking for the National Kidney Foundation, March of Dimes, Avon Walk For Breast Cancer, Great Strides, or any other organization (all of which I have participated in or donated to) “doesn’t do crap.”

One of the OP’s friends replied as well stating that “I can’t speak for everyone, but my friends who have done it have donated $10 and dumped the water. Not $100, no, but most of my friends can’t afford that kind of donation. And donations to ALS have dramatically increased since this challenge. I for one barely knew what ALS was but have learned a lot more about it since it started proliferating my feed.”

A friend of mine posted yesterday evening: “Today I watched a special on Pete Frates on ESPN. Seeing what he and his family are going through brought tears to my eyes and touched my heart. I realized how terrible this disease truly is and how there has been little progress in a cure for it since Lou Gehrig’s death.

I don’t feel like I need to share how much I donated to the cause but I do feel that without the #icebucketchallenge none of this obviously would have been possible. Is it partially a gimmick? Yes. Is it an effective and fun gimmick that is raising awareness and money for this association? Absolutely, yes. And I have no problem with that.

I was happy to have dumped water on my head for this man and any others affected by the disease. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have thought much into ALS. Mostly because no one I know directly is affected by it. I’m now honored to donate to the cause and pray for #petefrates and all others dealing with ALS.

So, if you’re posting negative things about people pouring water on themselves for this, please reconsider - I still have faith that humanity is capable of wonderful things and to be frank, $11 million dollars doesn’t lie.”

As of four hours ago, the total is up to  $13.3 million

So this proves that the campaign is doing its job. People who had no idea what it was are becoming educated. Some attack this campaign as a game of “would you rather” but many who do the challenge donate, too. A lot of people I know can’t fork over $100 so they opt for lesser donations like $10-20 but that doesn’t make it a lesser act of giving. It’s not about how much, it’s that you gave with your heart and every dollar counts. If every American gave $1 right now, it would be $318.6 million. You can help in more ways than donating money, too. You can help by educating your friends and family through sharing links and information. You can also check with local chapters of these charities and finding out how you can volunteer your time to help out.

Anonymous asked:

I'm a Christian but I'm feeling suicidal. What should I do? I'm feeling I'm failing in every aspect on what a Christian should be.

Politi-Kitty Answer:

If this is the question you’re asking right now, can we just give you a giant virtual hug, right now? We know a hug won’t really cure or solve anything, but we want you to know that we DO care. Yes, somebody cares!

We are so sorry you’re feeling this way. There are so many things that could have led to you to this point, as well as many emotions you might be feeling right now. Your heart must be hurting terribly, and we wish so much there was something we could do to instantly make it better. It may seem like nobody cares, or that no one really understands. Maybe you think there isn’t any reason to hope, because it seems nothing will ever actually get better. Maybe life doesn’t appear worth the pain of living.

But what if it was?

Please take this moment to hear us out, because we want to show you where True Hope lies, because it does exist. Yes, this life is full of pain and suffering, much of which we don’t understand. Maybe you’ve never heard of the God who loves and cares about you more than words can describe. Or maybe you’ve grown up with God but feel like He has abandoned you. Maybe the Church has rejected you or burned you so badly that you can’t imagine how their God could be different. Either way, God is so much more amazing and kind than man could ever hope to explain.

Why does God care about whether or not I commit suicide?

God is the Creator of the universe, and the Creator of you. God is the One whose image you were made in (Genesis 1:27). God is bigger than all circumstances, than all broken relationships, than all hurts and all mistakes. “For nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). God is the treasurer of broken hearts (Psalm 51:15-17).

Do you feel like your life has no purpose? God has a plan already made for your life, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). God created you because He wanted to, so you could glorify Him. Creating you in the first place brought Him glory! He chose everything about you and put the greatest thought into the smallest details of your person.

God loves you. Even if you don’t feel loved or if you can’t love yourself right now, He still loves you. In fact, He loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for your sin so you could return to the presence of your Creator—God Himself. Jesus Christ willingly came to the world in the form of a man and endured humanity. He endured humiliation (Matthew 27:28-31, 39-44). He endured rejection (Luke 4:16-29). He even endured abandonment (Matthew 26:56b). Can you relate to His troubles on Earth? But despite all this, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Jesus came to rescue your soul and cradle your heart. He is waiting for you to allow Him to speak into your life with Truth, love and hope. “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). He is waiting for you to give Him your life and accept His gift of salvation, or perhaps you’ve already accepted that gift and He’s waiting for you to hand over control so He can lead you out of the darkness of despair to the beautiful, glimmering light of hope.

There is nothing you have done that is so bad that Jesus’ sacrifice cannot cover it.

God has rescued and used people who were murderers (Moses), adulterers (David), and persecutors (the apostle Paul). But they all received forgiveness and renewal from God. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). God wants you to come to Him through His Son Jesus Christ so that He can adopt you into His family as His child.

God is a Father who will love you unconditionally—you will never be able to make God stop loving you (Romans 8:38-39). God is unchanging (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17), so there will never be a time when He’ll just decide He no longer cares about you. As a child of God, you are assured His love is forever (Ephesians 4:30). God is waiting for you to turn to Him.

Acts 16:31 says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” Jesus Christ loved you so much that He already took care of everything for you. All you need to do is accept His free gift of salvation. Believe with your whole heart that only Jesus can pay for your sins. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

There is nothing we can do to lose our salvation or to become “more saved.” Romans 11:6 says, “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.” And grace is what God extended to us.

But maybe you’ve already believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Maybe it feels like “it didn’t work.” Maybe you still feel despair and pain and hopelessness, and you think you’re not “supposed” to feel that way. You’re discouraged. You feel like an outcast from the church because you’re doubting, and it feels like the line to God has been cut. You feel alone.

You are not alone.

I promise that you are not the only one who has gone through this struggle of doubt. Doubt does not take away salvation, nor does it take away God’s unchangeable affection for you. Once you have become a child of God, “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, not height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Nothing can pull you away from your Savior, and nothing you do will make God love you less.

So why shouldn’t you commit suicide?

Because God wants to show you His awesome plan for your life. Because God wants to repair the brokenness you view as no good and wish to end by suicide. The prophet Isaiah said, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified” (Isaiah 61:1-3). Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Jesus came to Earth for the hurting. You, you, YOU are special and precious within the sight of the Creator of the universe. Yes, YOU—the one reading this! Matthew 10:29-31 says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So do not fear; YOU are more valuable than many sparrows.”

May you know that you matter and are invaluable to the One who created everything from the tiniest fish in the sea, to the sun and the moon and the stars. May you find comfort in the unchanging presence and compassion of Jesus Christ, and know that you, my friend, are important and unconditionally loved. May Christ’s grace be with you as you face this decision.

Maybe that is why you are feeling depressed.  Maybe it is time to get right with the Lord so you can experience His joy and peace.  Life is really tough and I can’t imagine going through it without Jesus.  Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that You took the pain and the sins of world on the cross to give me new life. I ask You to come into my heart and to give me Your peace and joy. I confess that I am a sinner that I have gone my own way and have done wrong. Please forgive me for my sins. I receive You now as my Lord and Savior. Today I come home. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me to follow You and to serve You all the days of my life. Thank you so much for loving me and forgiving me, in Jesus name I pray, Amen. If you prayed that prayer you are a new creature in Christ Jesus! You are Born Again!  If you don’t have a church let me know and I will help you to find a good one where you can go and talk to someone and get the help you need to lived a happy and fulfilled life.  I am here if you need me dear one.  God bless you!!!   Welcome Home!!!  ♥♥

Really Now?

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D; VA-11) came out with a statement ripping House Republicans.

Mr. Speaker, the Republican House is about to go out for 5 weeks, but first, they are going to sue the President and hope that we don’t pay attention to the unfinished business of this country. I only have 1 minute, so I am going to have to read it fast.

Let me list for you some of the bills they are not going to address: comprehensive immigration reform, propping up the highway trust fund, funding the Federal Government, reauthorizing the Ex-Im Bank, providing additional resources to fight wildfires in the West, bipartisan Federal IT procurement reform, raising the minimum wage, extending emergency unemployment insurance, reauthorizing terrorism risk insurance, comprehensive tax reform, modernizing the Voting Rights Amendment Act, and ensuring equal pay and nondiscrimination of the workplace.

I have run out of time, but our constituents have run out of patience with this majority.”

The Democrats talk a lot about this so-called “do nothing” Congress but their silence on Senator Reid’s inactivity is quite suspect. While Reid harassed the Washington Redskins over their mascot, 350 bills — including over 40 jobs bills — have rotted on his desk.

Mind you, this is the same Gerry Connolly who opposed the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act, which I supported as a citizen co-sponsor, and slammed it as a "cynical Republican ploy" in a statement on his webpage (which is now mysteriously missing). Also, as I reported recently in my coverage of the veterans town hall, he allegedly ignored a family who repeatedly reached out for help in securing assistance for their ailing veteran. Yes, this is the same Gerry Connolly who doesn’t seem to take breaches of federal law seriously. And yes, this is the same Gerry Connolly who referred to Eric Holder as an “honorable man.”

So who is Gerry Connolly to be wagging his finger at anyone? We need to wag a pink slip at him in November.
